Addictions

Posted by Blaine on April 3, 2007

I have several unhealthy addictions.  They don’t rule my life, but I make sure to schedule them in somewhere.

1.  24 and Lost.  Every week I need to catch up on these shows and debate the finer points with my wife and random people at the grocery store.

2.  Ebay.  I hardly use the internet to buy anywhere else.  The strangest thing I’ve sold: the glass plate from a microwave that went bad.  It brought $9, and I bought a new one at…

3. Yard sales.  I love finding great deals on things to sell on ebay, or on things I was going to need to buy anyway.  The trick to these places is not buying things you don’t need or can’t sell.

4. Fantasy sports.  I play baseball and football now.  My fantasy basketball days are over.  I’m in keeper leagues in both sports, usually with a yahoo! seasonal league with each one.  I consistently take either last or first.  Not much of mid range guy.

The past two weeks, despite bigger things in my life (a new baby girl!), I have still found the time to draft 2 baseball teams.  I think I’ll do okay in each league.  If not, my wife will hear me whine about it.

I’m glad I could get all that off my chest.  There are deeper things floating around in that head of mine, I just had to get those out.

“You have to understand something”

Posted by Blaine on January 16, 2007

Last night was the first time my wife has ever watched 24.  She’s new to the show, whereas I’ve seen them all.  Here’s a conversation between my wife and I last night:

Jack Bauer.jpgKate:  So why did they let him go?

Blaine:  The US government needs to give him to the terrorists so they will stop killing innocent people.

Kate:  So they’re going to use him as bait?

Blaine:  No.  They’re going to let him die.

Kate:  They’re going to save him though, right?

Blaine: No.  Listen, there’s something you need to know about Jack Bauer.

Kate:  What’s that?

Blaine:  He’s a superhero.

Kate:  He doesn’t look like a superhero…

Blaine:  He’s just a superhero.

Kate:  Does he know he’s about to die?

Blaine:  Yes.  Because he’s superhero.

Kate:  Isn’t he upset that they are giving him up after leaving him in prison?

Blaine:  I don’t know.  He’s a superhero.  Listen, to understand this show, you have to fully accept and understand that Jack Bauer is a superhero.

I think she has a better understanding of the show now.

-Spoiler Note: Apparently Jack Bauer is a superhero that shoots fellow superheroes.
